Supercomputing has a long history in Italy. Since its inception, Cineca has been able to concretize the Ministry of University and Research's mandate to represent Italy in the European supercomputing ecosystem, and now being concretized in the Tecnopolo in Bologna, with the creation of an international supercomputing hub. Francesco Ubertini, the president of Cineca, explains it to Futuro24.

Cineca presented the Emilia-Romagna Data Valley and the Big Data Technopole at Expo 2020 as part of the 'Regional day'. Investing in technological innovation, which is achievable in a region that is particularly active in both technological and scientific disciplines, projects Italy beyond national borders, and Cineca is one of the primary actors on this European and international road.

The EC Horizon 2020 AIDA project organizes a school on machine learning for heliophysics. During the school the new instruments developed during the AIDA project will be shown: AIDApy and AIDAdb. These tools are open source software and were designed to simplify the use of machine learning in any heliophysics application. The school is sponsored by PRACE.

The EC funded EUHubs4Data opens the second call for innovatove product and services. SMEs (including start-ups) and groups of web entrepreneurs are invited to propose experiments that make use of the EUHubsData federated catalgogue of data-driven services and datasets for the development of innovative products or advanced services. Deadline: February 1st, 2022 (17:00 CET).

The project "JOREK; Non-Linear MHD simulations of tokamak plasmas for validation and implications for JT-60SA and ITER", a multinational collaboration of 50 researches from 20 institutes that used Barcelona Supercomputing Center's and CINECA's supercomputers, has been recognised in the annual HPCwire Readers' and Editors' Choice Awards, with the honour Readers' Choice: Best Use of HPC in #Energy.

Cineca, with Eurocc Italy and Iotwins organize the workshop "Digital twins for industry" which will take place on December 14 at the BI-REX office from 9 to 18. Experts from the University of Bologna, Leonardo Company, Cineca and BI-REX will illustrate the state of the art of the Digital Twins and various industrial use cases from European projects. You can participate both in presence and online.
