Supercomputing has a long history in Italy. Since its inception, Cineca has been able to concretize the Ministry of University and Research's mandate to represent Italy in the European supercomputing ecosystem, and now being concretized in the Tecnopolo in Bologna, with the creation of an international supercomputing hub. Francesco Ubertini, the president of Cineca, explains it to Futuro24.
David Vannozzi, Cineca's Director General, recalls that Cineca's role in this path is as a technological arm that extends from research support to the creation of services for the digitization of the entire national academic system, then universities, research bodies, and reference ministries, Ministry of Education and Ministry of Research.
The director of the supercomputing department, Sanzio Bassini, introduces the areas of application: from food to pandemics, from energy to climate change, supercomputing is at the heart of research activities that address present and future challenges. But why do you require so much computing power? To shorten your search times. A large amount of data is generated as a result of scientific production, advanced research, and observation of physical phenomena.
The service produced by the Futuro24 broadcast aired on Rainews24 on January 18, 2022, created by journalist Andrea Bettini, of the editorial staff of Futuro24.
