On 23 November 2020, as part of the initiatives organized in the context of the Researchers' Night, the final event of Mistral will be held online, organized by the project partners: Cineca, Arpae, Arpa Piemonte, Civil Protection Department, Dedagroup and ECMWF-European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts.

Cineca received the BDVA i-Space Gold label, during the iSpaces Ceremony, at the European Big Data Value Forum 2020. As a labelled i-Space Cineca is recognized to be a data innovation space that contributes driving forward the Big Data Value ecosystem and its digital agenda for the benefit of Europe, its companies and citizens.

On Wednesday, November 4th 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm, Andrew Emerson (Application specialist CINECA) will present Cineca's HPC work to fight COVID-19, during "the Parallel Session on the role and impact of research programmes and projects leveraging AI and Big Data to fight COVID 19".

The Italian pharmaceutical regulatory agency, AIFA, has greenlighted a clinical trial for the use of Raloxifene in patients with mild symptoms caused by the coronavirus. In June 2020 Exscalate4CoV using European supercomputing had announced that the registered generic drug used to treat osteoporosis could be an effective treatment for coronavirus.

On October 1st, the European Center of Excellence in exascale computing “TREX - Targeting Real chemical accuracy at the EXascale”, has officially started its activities. TREX Center of Excellence is a consortium of 12 partners, funded under the Horizon 2020 program. Cineca is part of this consortium and will contribute with scientific expertise and HPC facilities.

The European supercomputer Leonardo, managed by Cineca that will be installed at the end of 2021 in the new data center located in Bologna Tecnopolo, will be based on Atos BullSequana XH2000 technology, and feature nearly 14,000 next generation NVIDIA Ampere architecture-based GPUs and NVIDIA Mellanox HDR InfiniBand. It will deliver 10 exaflops of FP16 AI performance.

On October 5th, the Council of Ministers, on the proposal of the President Giuseppe Conte and the Minister of University and Research Gaetano Manfredi, approved the rules for the establishment of the National Agency for Meteorology and Climatology called "ItaliaMeteo" and measures aimed at facilitating the coordination of the management of meteorology and climatology.
