Big Data Value Association (BDVA) is a fully self-financed non–for-profit organisation, the members comprise small and large European organisation from public and private sector of business, industry, academia and research that support the objectives of the BDVA. The BDVA General Assembly unanimously approved Cineca Full Membership of the BDVA.

The 2015 International Workshop on Software Engineering for High Performance Computing in Science (SE4HPCS15) will be held Tuesday May 19, 2015 in Florence, in conjunction with ICSE 2015.

PRACE started this PCP to obtain R&D services which should result in future PRACE HPC systems to become more energy efficient. Phase I of PCP was completed on 9 March 2015. During Phase I, Bull, E4, Maxeler and Megware explored the various possible solutions. These have now been invited to bid for Phase II during which prototypes for the three most promising solutions will be built.

SISSA increasingly betting on High Performance Computing. SISSA has received European Community funding equivalent to 18 million hours of supercomputing to be used, over 1 year, on FERMI at CINECA. The grant was awarded thanks to a research project in particle physics.

Enabling European researchers and practitioners from any research discipline to preserve, find, access, and process data in a trusted environment. Cineca is member of EUDAT2020 an European project, which is the follow-up of the previous EUDAT project, just ended. Cineca will be work package leader (WP7) and task leader in the development and operation work packages.

The 10th PRACE Regular Call for Proposals yielded 127 eligible proposals of which 48 were awarded for a total of close to 1.0 thousand million core hours. The 48 awarded projects are led by P. I. from 13 different European countries, 1 from Australia and 2 from the USA. 11 awarded projects have PI from Italy (23% of projects) for a total of 286 million core hours (27% of hours).

Graduate students and postdoctoral scholars from institutions in Canada, Europe, Japan and the United States are invited to apply for the sixth International Summer School on HPC Challenges in Computational Sciences, to be held June 21-26, 2015, in Toronto, Canada. On January 24th Radio2 RAI (Ovunque 6) interviewed Giovanni Erbacci (Cineca contact point). He discussed the role of Cineca in "Human Brain Project", one of the most ambitious and innovative scientific projects of the European Community.

PRACE and EUDAT both understand that the digital era offers new challenges and opportunities, requiring high-end HPC and Data Services for European researchers. The 11th PRACE Call for Proposals for Project Access includes a pilot with EUDAT offering the possibility to couple EUDAT storage capacity to PRACE HPC resources. DEADLINE: 18 March 2015

PRACE will organize in 2015 again summer placements at CINECA or other HPC centres across Europe to late stage undergraduates and early stage postgraduate students. Travel, accommodation and a stipend will be provided to all successful applicants. EXTENDED Applications deadline: 15 March 2015.
