Starting date:

End date:

HPCW is a consortium of 6 key-players in High Performance Computing all around the world [5 Supercomputing Centers (CINECA, BSC, FZJ, SDSC and BlueFern) plus GENCI, the French national agency in charge of HPC coordination],  with the aim of performing an analysis and an assessment of the models used worldwide by the HPC centers and initiatives to manage the requests for allocation of resources coming from researchers and their communities.

General notes:

The main mission of the consortium is to create a model for the reviewing of the applications and the selection of the most challenging. The target is to produce a procedure suitable for the largest possible number of Research Infrastructures and Initiatives, to cover potentially the whole panorama of RIs. The procedure will be then presented and offered as a best practice to all HPC initiatives and centers, as well as to scientific communities that may take advantage from it. In details, HPCW main activities will be focused on:

  • Analysis and assessment of the models, implemented in the involved HPC centers as well as in other RIs, of:

 access to the infrastructures

 reviewing of the applications
 selection of the most challenging and valuable research projects;

  • Creation, on the basis of the results of such analysis, of a common model for reviewing and selection of researchers, to be proposed to the next generation of peta scale facilities in Europe and world-wide;
- Validation of the model by the European e-Infrastructures community;
  • Potential extension of the model to non-European centers and HPC and not-HPC related projects
Funding Scheme:
Supported by European Commission DG-INFSO; Grant Agreement N.246711 Financing: 250.000 Euro (Total project budget about 600.000 Euro)
