Thursday, December 1, Cineca organized at Bologna a meeting to present Summer of HPC, the transnational mobility program promoted by PRACE.
Summer of HPC is a PRACE programme that offers university students the opportunity to spend two months in the summer at HPC centres accross Europe. The students work using HPC resources on projects that are related to PRACE work with the goal to produce a visualisation or a video.
At the end of the activity, every year two projects out of the 20 participants are selected and awarded for their outstanding performance.
This year the awards were presented to Adurag Dogra (he worked at Cineca on InSitu Visualization of Navier Stokes Tornado Effect project, with co-ordinator: M. Guarrasi) and to Marta Čudova with the following explanation respectively:
- PRACE Summer of HPC 2016 Best Visualisation Award:
Anurag produced a highly impressive In Situ visualisation of tornado effects, in which he exhibited his dedication to quality. His visualisation very nicely explained the complexity and journey of working in High Performance Computing. He exhibited great understanding of the underlying physics and produced an excellent report. He received very positive feedback from his mentor and fellow participants. The high quality work illustrates his motivation and dedication to the programme. Anurag was excellent team player that contributed strongly to the Summer of HPC.

Moreover, she has successfully communicated the importance and objectives of her project through her blog posts and video
The program of the award event includes presentations given by PRACE Board of Directors representative, by the PRACE Project PMO, and the Chair of the SOHPC award committee. The two winners will be given the opportunity to present their project and results.
As host of the award ceremony Cineca presented to the Italian scientific community the interesting opportunity offered by SOHPC to students who intend to spend a period of study abroad in the context of high performance computing.
