The PhD school in Physics and Nanoscience of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia has several openings for graduate students that plan to start a PhD in the fall of 2023.
The school welcomes students with a background in physics, chemistry, engineering or related fields who are interested in using high-performance computing facilities, such as CINECA, to interpret, understand and design physical and chemical processes at the nanoscale.
Applications deadline: July 27th, 2023.
Research topics: quantum sciences and technologies; energy-conversion processes for batteries, photocatalysis, and photovoltaics; physics of low-dimensional and bio systems. Significant efforts are devoted to the development of advanced computational algorithms and methods for condensed-matter and nano-systems using GPUs, machine learning, and quantum computers. Particular emphasis will be given to the study of ground and excited-state phenomena using techniques such as density-functional theory, many-body perturbation theory, and quantum embedding methods.
