Dear Users,

the modifications to Eurora PBS scheduler were successfully implemented and the cluster is now open to job submission. As previously illustrated, the new configuration aims at encouraging the development activities which exploit Eurora state-of-the-art accelerators (Intel Xeon Phi and Keplero GPU). Long production runs (up to 8 hours) will be allowed to run at nightime and weekends only (see below). Please consider using PLX for longer production runs and for jobs not involving this types of accelerators.

Different scheduling policies are now defined in two time intervals: the primetime (10 am - 6 pm weekdays) and the non-primetime (6 pm - 10 am weekdays, and from Friday 6 pm to Monday 10 am). A fair-share policy is also enforced, ordering the start times of jobs according to the resource usage history of users.

During primetime a new queue (the p_devel) is introduced for development, debugging, and optimization purposes. It is defined on specific nodes configured in order to fully exploit profiling and performance tools (such as Intel VTune Amplifier) in event-based sampling data collect. It must be explicitly requested when submitting the job.

The production queue longpar was renamed to np_longpar, and is only enabled during the non-primetime range. Its maximum walltime was reduced from 24 hours to 8 hours.

The remaining two queues, debug and parallel, are enabled both in the primetime and the non-primetime ranges. The parameters of the debug queue were not modified, while the maximum walltime for jobs of the parallel type was reduced from 6 to 4 hours.

In the new configuration, you do not need to specify the queue for the job types debug, parallel, and np_longpar. According to the requested resources and walltime the jobs, will be routed to the appropriate queue. The queue specification is instead required for the p_devel jobs.

Please, refer to the updated section on the online guide to Eurora for details.

Best regards,
